Warner Spring Track - Boys and Girls Team Information

Track practice begins on Monday, April 1, 2024.  Practice is Monday through Friday after school from 2:45 - 4:15 pm.  Athletes must be picked up promptly at 4:15pm. Students can NOT be left after school without supervision.

ATTENDANCE:
Track practice is MANDATORY.  We realize that conflicts occasionally arise; if a student must miss practice, a parent email or voice mail should be sent to Mr. Burrell or Mrs. Dalton, explaining the student's absence.  Unexcused absences will result in the student not being allowed to participate in the next meet.  Multiple unexcused absences will result in dismissal from the team. Boys who play multiple sports in the Spring (Baseball, Basketball, Soccer, Hockey, etc.) should check with Coach Burrell to see if arrangements can be made to facilitate your participation on the track team as well.

SAFETY
Every year we implement appropriate protocol for the safety of the track participants.

  • Athletes have the option to wear masks at practices/meets.

  • Athletes need to bring a water bottle to refill.

  • Athletes have one bathroom available outside for necessary use (please use the restroom prior to practice).

MEETS
Athletes are guaranteed one event at each meet as long as they have attended practice, demonstrated effort, followed team rules, and remained in good academic standing. The students participating in the first heat in any track event will be competing for points that will determine the score. Additional exhibition heats may follow to ensure all athletes are provided with an opportunity to compete.

Meets can run anywhere from 2.5 to 3.5 hours, so plan accordingly. All athletes are expected to stay until the conclusion of the meet in order to help facilitate the meet and encourage their teammates. If this is not possible, and the athlete needs to leave early, parents must sign their child out prior to leaving the meet.

UNIFORMS
Warner will attempt to provide participants with a track uniform which they are responsible to care for. However, many athletes prefer to purchase their own uniform top. A purchased uniform top may be used for each season your athlete participates in track at WMS.

PROPER PREPARATION
Athletes will be responsible for having proper practice gear each day. A comfortable pair of running shoes is essential. In addition, athletes are encouraged to bring warm clothes (sweats, hat, gloves) to practice since Michigan weather is unpredictable. Warm clothes, rain gear, snacks and water are essential to surviving track meets. Michigan weather changes all the time, and athletes need to be prepared for any weather we encounter.

TRANSPORTATION
Bus transportation will be provided to and from each track meet. If a parent would like to transport their child home from a meet, they must sign their child out prior to leaving the meet. At NO time may an athlete ride home with another family, unless an email was sent to the coaching staff prior to the event.
